Applied Behavior Analysis

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a type of therapy that focuses on building social significant skills, often with an emphasis on social and communication skills. It can also be used to reduce behaviors that may interfere with progress or access to other services. ABA includes a learner’s motivation and reason for behaving certain ways to create highly individualized and effective interventions. Parents are encouraged to participate in therapy and receive coaching so learners can practice their skills in any environment.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants focus on the things you want and need to do in your daily life. Occupational therapy intervention uses play based activities (occupations) to develop sensory integration, fine and gross motor skills, visual-motor skills and a child’s balance and coordination. Occupational therapist can also work to develop a child’s self-care skills to improve their feeding, dressing and hygiene routines.

Speech Language Pathology

Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) work to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in children. Language disorders occur when a person has trouble understanding others (receptive language), or sharing thoughts, ideas, and feelings (expressive language). Treatment typically focuses on developing a child’s functional communication skills to improve everyday interactions.

Social Group

Social groups are organized by age and meet weekly at Bista. Each group receives instruction a specific social skill and is provided natural opportunities to practice that skill. Our social groups teach learners how to make friends, respond in uncomfortable moments, and connect with those around them. The skills we work on range from emotions, coping skills, problem solving, and more.

School Support

School support is provided in many different formats. Our qualified school consultation team provides trainings on ABA, behavior management, classroom strategies, and can build an individualized training for your team. We also offer Functional Behavior Assessments. Our team believes that learners belong in the least restrictive environment, and we aim to equip schools to feel confident in supporting their students.
